THE MAMA LAMUKA ASSOCIATION

Susanne_Plieschnegger_smaller.jpg

The beginning…
It all began with Susanne Plieschnegger, a Carinthian woman originally from the Democratic Republic of Congo who had settled in Krumpendorf on Lake Wörthersee. She founded this association with like-minded Carinthians because she was aware of the problem of the lack of education for girls in her former homeland.

Tasks and goals
The statutes of the association “mama-lamuka” (Carinthian Aid for Women in Congo) have formulated the support of women’s projects in Congo as their central task: creation of “training centers in Bokungu-Ikela for general education (literacy), vocational training (crafts, agriculture), health (AIDS prevention, etc.) and women’s rights as well as assistance for self-help in the development of women’s projects.

The Union

Our association, "Mama lamuka," has existed since 2008 and finances its projects through donations and grants. All members are volunteers, which means that 100% of donations and grants go to the projects in Bokungu-Ikela. The association is responsible for the project according to its statutes and the Association Act. Ms. Marie-Susanne Plieschnegger has served as chairwoman since the association's inception, and Ms. Sylvia Saidi has served as deputy chairwoman. The project proposal has not yet been submitted to any other organizations.
